What is a mentor….

A mentor is someone who has “been there, done that”.  Someone who has learned from experience and most importantly, is willing to share [leadership; objective; coach; advise; confident, empathic, shares, knowledgeable, listens].

 What is a protégé ....

A protégé is a self-starter who is open to actively addressing their own learning needs and is someone who is willing to manage the mechanics of the mentorship relationship.

Qualities:

 Establishing a mentoring relationship:

  1. Decide on mutual objectives.
    1. What do you want to get out of the relationship?
  2. Identify activities tied to objectives.
    1. What will you do to achieve objectives?
  3. Set expectations.
    1. Time frames.
    2. Milestones.

 Limits and boundaries must be set that work for both parties.

1. Be brief and specific.

2. Be prepared and do your homework.

3. Schedule date/time frames for contact with mentor. 

4. Respect the use of technology as a tool, not to overwhelm.

The Mentoring Program structure:

Criteria:  Must attend Ergonomic Worksite Analysis: Theory and Practice for Growth and Profitability professional training course by Worksite International or other approved workshop and have purchased the Worksite International CD Rom System of Forms as well. 

  1. No geographical restrictions.
  2. Provides for “real time” help.
  3. Payment required in advance.
    1. Fee can be recouped through more business and larger sales.
    2. Creates attentiveness to the process.
    3. Encourages commitment.
  4. Call, write, fax, e-mail at anytime, without restriction.
  5. Length of program:  Basic Mentorship is for one year following completion of the EWA workshop. Advanced mentorship: 6 months of unlimited access.  Protégé can sign up again for a 2nd or 3rd time.  Protégé can freeze the calendar at any time and call a “time-out”.  Protégé keeps track of time.
  6. If lives nearby, can schedule to meet in person as needed per month.
  7. Mentor will return all phone calls within 3 hours and all e-mails within 24 hours.  Review and respond to reports within 72 hours if needed.
  8. Mentor will mentor 10-15 people at any one time.  Others will be on waiting list.
  9. Methods and Process Conveyance:  (Strategies and Tactics):

 The following are examples of the type of activities that might be covered in the Advanced Mentorship Program:

    1. How to question prospects, attract inquires, positioning and pricing your services.

    2. How to qualify buyers.
    3. How to build your own practice; respond to inquires, develop your sales and marketing approach.
    4. Critique of your ergonomic worksite analyses reports and provide recommendations for improvement. (Up to 8 reports over 6 months.)
    5. How to set up and teach “Ergo 101” course.
    6. Critique proposal writing tips to obtain agreement – fee setting.
    7. Role play for upcoming meetings; dealing with objectives.

BASIC MENTORSHIP:                                           

This program is included when you purchase the CDROM. Alison Heller-Ono will personally assist you during your first year using the exclusive Worksite International CDROM system of Ergonomic Analysis and Training. Alison will be available by phone, fax, email and mail to discuss and review your first two evaluations and  training required for your notification as an official Worksite International Network Membership and your official "Letter of Completion".

 Submit a total of 60 points for basic mentorship in ergonomic analysis (all items required):

    Submit 2 of  Office Ergonomic Evaluation Reports (Workers’ Compensation cases that include Functional Limits report)             REQUIRED                                                  20 points
    Submit 2 complete Office Ergonomic Checklists                    10 points
    Submit 2 Workstation diagrams                                              10 points
    Submit one letter from a satisfied customer for a recently  completed ergonomic worksite analysis                                                                                  10 points

 Submit a total of 30 Points for the training mentorship (all items required):

Submit two Employer Satisfaction Survey Outcome Reports resulting from live training.

ADVANCED MENTORSHIP:                                   

In our advanced mentorship program, you will be mentored through multiple evaluations, ergonomics training, business development issues related to marketing, promotion and proposal writing as well as contract development. In addition, onsite mentoring at your location is available to help you with your onsite marketing and service delivery. 

  1. Distance Mentorship Program: 3 month and 6 month programs  No refunds.  Can be paid in installments, 50% deposit required before beginning.
  2. Two-day Onsite Mentoring at your location.  Includes going with you to meet with client if desired, assist with positioning your business, creating marketing pieces, coaching, review of written materials or evaluations, assist with onsite analysis and/or delivering training program.   
  3. Includes complimentary quarterly newsletter.

Your Mentor: 

Alison is the President and CEO of Worksite International, which she founded in 1993. Alison Heller-Ono offers her clients’ years of experience as a clinical physical therapist combined with her expertise as a Certified Industrial Ergonomist and Certified Management Consultant as well as a Certified Disability Analyst. Alison is a nationally and internationally recognized speaker specializing in ergonomics process development and work injury management through ergonomics. She has spoken at the International Ergonomics Association Conference in Finland and San Diego as well as the Nat’l Workers’ Compensation and Disability Conference on her work in developing an Ergonomics Process. Alison has also been invited to speak for the Ergonomics Society of Australia. She is a recognized author and has published dozens of articles, and 2 books on the subject of ergonomics, "Your Guide to Developing an Ergonomics Process" and " Your Guide to Office Ergonomic Furniture and Accessories.

Alison holds her Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy and has specialized in ergonomics and disability management over the past decade with an emphasis on the relationship of these issues to the ADA Title I and workers' compensation in California. Alison is a Certified Industrial Ergonomist (CIE) from the Oxford Research Institute (ORI) with a specialty as an Ergonomics Program Education Specialist. Recently, Worksite International’s Ergonomics Training Program for Physical and Occupational Therapists was awarded the 5 Star Seal of Ergonomics Excellence from the ORI. This training is the first to be awarded such an accreditation outside a university curriculum. Ms. Heller-Ono is also a certified Disability Analyst and Fellow through the American Board of Disability Analysts. Our latest training, "Ergonomic Worksite Analysis: Theory and Practice for Growth and Profitability" offers many similar features of the accredited program.
